What Does The Following Biopsy Report Suggest?

I received a diagnosis on my right breast, following a Stereotactic biopsy. It is the following: Focal atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) in association with intraductal papilloma. Negative for malignancy. Do I need surgery or can I wait 1 year for my next mammogram to see if there is a difference.

Hi

Let me assure you that both atypical ductal hyperplasia ADH and papiloma are both benign conditions (not cancer), however ADH sometimes have cancer cells around it. For this reason we have to do surgery to remove it and send it for biopsy to make sure that there is no unseen cancer around it.

Regards
