What Does The Following Biopsy Report Suggest?

My husband is waiting for biopsy results from Gastroscopy. Esophageal mucosal changes noted as suspicious. Patulous lower esophageal sphincter noted. Gastritis biopsied. He is 67 years old, Type II uncontrolled diabetes and when he eats his stomach becomes hard, distended and he has never been able to burp. What could we be looking at? I m very worried for him.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Patulous lower esophageal sphincter means hiatus hernia. He may need drug or surgery as per extent of disease.

When you get the report, please type the report clearly and then we will be able to advise and guide you appropriately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi
