What Does The Following Blood Test Report Indicate?

I have a patient that iron profile looks like anemia of chronic disease. His CRP is undetectable and Sed Rate is 5. His ferritin is 121, Iron saturation 18%, serum iron 45, and TIBC is 250. Is there anything else that can cause numbers like this other than chronic disease?

Hello,

anemia of chronic disease is indeed the most likely cause with values like the ones you've mentioned. The chronic disease is not expected to be an infection (no CRP or ESR) and most autoimmune disorders are unlikely as well (low ESR). Tumors, renal disease, etc are potential diagnoses.

I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Kind Regards,
Dr Panagiotis Zografakis
