What Does The Following Semen Analysis Report Suggest?

Me and my DH are thinking of having a baby in the near future. However, my DH was concerned about his fertility as he was hit by a hard cricket ball in his groin area when he was 17. We got the semen analysis done but both of us have no knowledge of what s considered normal or abnormal. We would really appreciate some help in making us understand the report and letting us know if we can try getting pregnant or should see the doctor first. Below are the values from DH s report. Volume- 6.5 ml Appearance- Viscid opaque color- Whitish pH- 7.5 Sperm concentration- 120 million/ ml Total sperm count- 780 million Percentage motility- 75% Progressive motility- 50% Non-progressive motility- 25% Immotile- 25% Agglutination- Negative Pus cells- 1-2/hpf Red blood cells-NIL Normal morphology- 85% Abnormal morphology- 15% a- Head defects-7% b-Tail defects-3% c- Neck & mid piece defects- 5% Semen fructose- Positive

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
The following conclusions can be drawn based on the semen analysis report you have furnished.
1. Volume of 6.5 ml is normal.
2. Colour should be whitish, and is normal.
3. Viscosity and reaction (pH) seems to be normal.
4. Sperm concentration of 120 million/ml and Total Sperm count of 780 million is normal.
5. Sperm motility with 50% progressively motile is normal.
6. Sperm morphology with 85% normal forms is normal.
7. Semen fructose test should be positive and it is, and hence normal.
8. Agglutination test should be negative, and it is, and hence normal.
9. Microscopy showing 1 -2 pus cells/HPF and Nil RBCs indicates that there is no infection.
Fertility index based on the above report can be considered as good and does not require any form of intervention.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
