What Does The Following Spinal MRI Test Result Mean?
SIR, MRI OF LS SPINE INDICATING:-DIFFUSE DISC BULGE £ LIGAMENTUM FLAVUM THICKENING AND FACETAL ARTHROPATHY AT L4-5 LEVEL CAUSING MILD SECONDARY CANAL STENOSIS £ MILD TO MODERATE NARROWING OF BILATERAL NEURAL FORAMINA. (2) DIFFUSE DISC BULGE AT L4S LEVEL INDENTING THE THECAL SAC WITH MILD NARROWING OG BILATERAL NEURAL FORAMINA. REQUESTING YOU PLEASE SUGGEST APPROPRIATE TREATMENT AND PRECUATIONAY MEASURES TO FUTHER WORSNING. THANKING YOU.
Report suggests degenerative disc disease of lumbo-scaral spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.
1.At L4-5 level, there is diffuse disc bulge which is causing mild central canal stenosis and mild to moderate narrowing of bilateral lateral neural foramen. There is also hypertrophy of ligamentum flavum and facet(bony joints in between two vertebra) arthropathy.
2.At L5-S1 level, there is diffuse disc bulge which is indenting the thecal sac and mild narrowing of bilateral lateral neural foramen.
Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first. Surgery should be the last option.
Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurologist.
