What Does The Following Ultrasound Report Suggest?

I have had an ultrasound of the abdomen. The findings are : I have a suspicious left ovarian solid neopiasm measuring 3.1 cm and a right ovarian cyst measuring 3.4 x 3.3x 2.7 with no vascularity/solid component. What is your opinion regarding prognosis ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Ovarian mass could be due to benign lesion and malignant lesion. I would suggest to go for cancer marker like CA 125, Risk malignancy index (RMI) = ultrasound score x menopausal score x CA-125 level in U/mIf RMI of over 200 or 250 is generally felt to indicate high risk for ovarian cancer. If RMI score will be > 200 or 250 then The diagnosis must be confirmed with surgery to inspect the abdominal cavity, take biopsies (tissue samples for microscopic analysis), and look for cancer cells in the abdominal fluid. This helps to determine if an ovarian mass is benign or malignant. So you can ask your gynecologist for RMI.

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
