What Does The Following Urinalysis Report Suggest?

My wife is 55 years old. In Urine culture, there was: e Collis. Now, after medicine for about 25 days, medicine stopped and after seven days gap urine culture test done. It shows Gram stain: few Gram positive cocci in pairs. What does this mean? Is it serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Gram-positive cocci in pairs may refer to staph aureus bacteria. These bacteria can sometimes exist on the skin and it is possible that when the sample is taken, cells from the skin may be in the sample.

It is not serious since they only detected a small number of bacteria in the sample. If an infection was present, there would be a large number of bacteria present in the sample.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
