MRI Oct 16 - C-6-7 mild disc space narrowing, a diffuse disc bulge and diffuse spondylitic ridging/uncinated hypertrophy are present. There is a shallow broad base left paracentral disc protusion which mildly extens into the left neural foramen. Moderate central canal stenosis with flattening of the left ventral spinal cord. There is moderate left and mild to moderate right neural formaminal narrowing. MRI Dec 16 C 6-7 Multilevel degenerative changes of the cervical spine, most notably at c 6-7 where moderate central canal stenosis is related to a diffuse disc bulge and diffuse spondylitic ridging. NS has had me on steroids, after 3 weeks if feels bearable again but as I am 3 weeks into coming off steroids stingers both arms (mostly left) are back. This is the 5th time I have taken steroid pills in past 15 months. 1st doc said it was carpal tunnel, now NS says pinched nerves in elbow (did NCS). I am sure neck is my problem what key words can I use to get sent in direction for permanent relief.
Neural foramina are openings through which nerves supplying the arms and legs exit the spinal canal. Due to various reasons, one of them being disc disease (bulge/ protrusion), this openings may be narrowed and nerves may get compressed. This results in symptoms such as stingers or weakness in arms and legs. However, in your report, there is no significant neural formina narrowing on either side. So it is not very likely that your symptoms are a result of neck issues. For spondylosis related nerve compression, a NS is the best place to go. Other systemic causes for nerve disease such as hypothyroidism or diabetes may be looked into depending on your age, gender, other systemic symptoms and test results.
