What Does The Report Say?

Hi, Dr. I found out today that a doppler ultrasound test on my dad revealed his thyroid was almost fully clogged. Seems any less blood getting to his brain would have caused a stroke. I was told they will be performing a procedure tomorrow but i do not know what the procedure entails.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

I suppose you are talking about his carotids being clogged and not allowing proper blood to flow into his brain. The carotids are large arteries (blood vessels) supplying blood to the brain. They may get clogged in many people of the elderly age group restricting blood supply to the brain. The doctors might be performing an angiography procedure to open up the arteries. This is a relatively safe procedure and your dad will get well soon enough. Please give him regular medications after the procedure.
