Hello and welcome to HCM,
The interpretation of the endoscopy report is as follows:
There is grade 1
esophagitis. Esophagitis is inflammation of
esophagus.
Esophagitis is commonly caused by reflux disease, fungus and
cytomegalovirus.
The cause of esophagitis will be determined after biopsy result.
There is presence of lax lower esophageal segment (LES).
Under health the LES is tight enough and it prevents reflux of gastric contents into the lower esophagus.
Lax LES will lead to reflux of gastric contents into the LES and thus cause esophagitis, regurgitation and water brash.
It is probable from the endoscopy results that esophagitis is caused by reflux, however, biopsy confirmation is required.
This condition is commonly managed by
proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
In case it responds to medication, no further treatment is required else surgery will be required.
Surgical treatment consists of tightening of lax LES.
Thanks and take care
