What Does The Report Say?

Hi Doc I am 30 Weeks pregnant, recently i got my urine test done. Through Microscopic Examination- Epithelial Cell count is 10-12 (Unit /HPF) and Pus cells count is 5-6 (Unit /HPF). Do i am having any disease? How it can be cured? And what are the implications of it? Please Advise. Regards Chhavi

Dear cchavi,I understand your concern.in my opinion your report says urinary tract infection(UTI).dont worry about that its not a big problem.urinary tract infection is routinely seen in pregnancy .consult a gynae and take treatment as you may need antibiotics for that.you need to take upto 3 litres of fluids like water ,coconut water and especially cranberry juice.adequate fluids will decrease the risk of urinary tract infection.sometimes untreated UTI may lead to preterm labour ,pyelonephritis(infection of kidneys).relax because the complications are seen in untreated severe UTI.taking apt treatment along with adequate fluids will cure the infection .
