What Does The Result Regarding Ear Infection Indicate?

Hi there my 17 month old son had some blood tests results come back yesterday. My GP rang me concerned as his Alt came back at 312 (normal should be 30) and his AST came back at 141 (normal should be 55). I could not get onto my pediatrician yesterday to discuss these results. He does currently have an ear infection. Should I be worried?

Hello,

Liver enzymes can be high temporary in viral infection and in EBV like infection. Liver pathology like hepatitis, alpha one antitrypsin deficiency, Wilson disease et cetera also can lead high liver enzymes.

After ear infection is over again liver enzymes can be repeated. If still high, then USG abdomen can be done. Physical examination needed and if needed bilirubin level also can be checked. Also, consult pediatrician for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
