What Does The Stool Test Mean?

Hi =, I am 46yrs old male. I have been experiencing loose bowel, fever and stomach pains for 4 days now. My stool test shows NO OVA NOR PARASITES SEEN but the Pus Cells are 1-3/HPF. What does this mean? What possible infection could I have? thanks

Hi there,

The presence of pus cells is within normal level (1-3), as up to this level we can find pus cells in healthy people too.

Experiencing loose bowel, fever, and stomach pains are indicative for possible gastroenteritis, most probably due to virus as long as no ova nor parasites were seen in your stool.

I advise to:
- take lots of fluids (water, juices, yogurt, etc.)
- have light meals (soups, curd)
- take Oral rehydration salt you find as over the counter

If no improvement within a few days, or the symptoms will get worst, then, should consult with your doctor for further evaluation.

Wish fast recovery!
