My wife Widal Test Serum report shows the following Salmonella typhi O (TO) Reactive 1:80 Salmonella typhi H (TH) Reactive 1:40 Salmonella paratyphi A, H(AH) Non Reactive Salmonella paratyphi B H(BH) Non Reactive Is any treatment required in this case for Typhoid? She doesn not have any fever. She has only weakness as Haemoglobin is 9 and high pulse rate of 100 - 110 All heart related tests like ECO, ECG, Holter Monitor tests, Liver tests, Urine tests are normal. Please advice.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Widal tests is negative. Titre of more than 1:160 is helpful.
2. Low amount of hemoglobin has caused weakness. Red cell indices are necessary to identify the cause. Do get a reticulocyte count test done.
3. Pulse rate is reduced due to 9g% hemoglobin as it is causing cardiac failure.
4. As all other reports are normal, hemoglobin is the only defect found and it can be corrected with nutritional diet.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
