What Does Thinning Of The Kidney Walls Indicate?

I recently had my annual wellness check-up for Medicare(I am 69)they said that my blood results showed a reduction in kidney function and had me get an ultrasound of my kidneys done. They told me that it showed some thinning of the walls of my kidneys. Can you tell me what are some of the causes and is it reversible? Tom Reeves

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Though not necessarily but thinning of kidneys when accompanied by blood tests showing reduction in renal function may indicate some chronic kidney problem. I would advise you repeat the tests in some times , and if still the same you should see a nephralogist ( doctor dealing in kidney diseases) to be sure about your kidneys.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
