Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a ALT level of 400 im so worried about it can this be a serious cause of liver disease? Can I have a fatty liver for this? Negative for all hep virus panel no other meds except for vit D fish oil and eating too much peanut butter. I m a non alcoholic drinker pls help. No ultrasound taken yet.
Increased ALT may indicate liver injury. It may be due to many causes like hepatitis, fatty liver, medicine side effect,auto-immune causes etc. Fatty liver usually doesn't cause this much elevated ALT. You may need ANA estimation, lipid profile, ultrasound of abdomen. Liver biopsy can be done if all investigations are negative. You may need medicines like tablet ursodeoxycholic acid tablet 300 mg twice daily for three months. It helps in regeneration of liver cells.
