What Does This BUN/Creatinine Ratio In A Diabetic Patient Indicate?
I JUST HAD LAB TEST THAT SHOWS BUN/CREATINE 30 AND IS MARKED HIGH. I AM 68 AND HAVE DIABETES 2 SINCE I WAS 45. MY MOTHER HAD DIABTES VAND DIED DUE TO RENAL FAILURE SO IM VERY CONCERNED N THIS AREA. IS THIS A DIET ISSUE, CAN BE CHANGED WITH MEDICINE OR INEVITABLE DIABETES COMPLICATION.
Hello , Welcome to healthcaremagic.comand thanks for sharing your concern with us. BUN/Creatinine ratio can be increased in diverse conditions like dehydration , hypoperfusion . For a better interpretation please provide the BUN and creatinine levels as well so that effect on kidney can be assessed . Diabetes affects kidney as well as every organ in body . And the best way to prevent such pathological changes , one should control the blood glucose levels strictly . HbA1c levels should be maintained below 7 by diabetics so that microangiopathic and macroangiopathic changes can not progress .The role of exercise and diet is very crucial in a better blood glucose control . Take your prescribed medicines everyday . Please provide me the creatinine and Urea levels so that actual assessment can be done .Sometimes BUN creatinine ratio can be increased but the individual levels are low to low normsal which is of no clinical significance and considered normal. Best Regards , DR.S.TOMAR
