What Does This CT Scan Report Indicate?

Hi, I had a problem of frequent headache and heaviness around my nose area. It was feeling like blockage in that area. I went to ENT specialist. He suggested me to do CT Scan PNS Plain. In the report it is showing below conclusion. 1. A large polypoidal mucosal thickening in floor of right maxillary sinus. Mild mucosal thickening in left maxillary sinus. Bilateral maxillary OMUs are patent. 2. Mild deviation of the nasal septum to left. Do i need to worry about this or it will fine with medicine?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

This CT scan report indicates that both the right and left maxillary sinus are affected. They are inflamed due to hyperplasia of the mucous lining commonly caused by allergies, rhinitis, chemical agents, infections, asthma, etc. There is mild deviation in the nasal septum triggering sinusitis. You are suggested to get clinically assessed and get treated.

It can be treated with medicines, take steam inhalation regularly. Take nasal irrigation. Your treating doctor will treat you with antibiotics (in case of bacterial sinusitis) and cortico-steroids. You may need correction of the nasal septum by surgery if your symptoms do not respond to the conservative treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
