What Does This CT Scan Report Mean?

What does clinical correlation mean? I have circumferential wall thickening involving the colon from the level of the ileoconic anastomosis on the right through the rectosigmoid region. Circumferential wall thickening is apparent involving colonic loops, through transverse colon etc. The findings are most prominent at level of transverse and proximal descending....could be inflammatory, infectious,or due to pseudomembranous colitis given distribution throughout entire colon...findings suggestive of thumb printing at level of transverse region. Last sentence says clinical correlation is needed.

Hi,
It means wall of large intestine is thickened.
Almost whole length of large intestine involved starting from ileocolonic anastomosis (junction of terminal part of small intestine with large intestine)
upto rectosigmoid (junction between terminal part of large intestine with rectum) junction.
[Patient may have undergone abdominal surgery where part of large intestine with or without some terminal part of small intestine is removed and remaining part of large intestine sutured with terminal part of small intestine].
Thickening is more prominent in middle portion (transverse and proximal descending colon) large intestine.
The cause for thickening may be inflammatory, infection or due to pseudomembranous colitis (infection of large intestine due to particular organism clostridia)
Thumbprinting is a radiographic sign of large bowel wall thickening.
Clinical correlation is needed it means correlate the CT findings with patient's clinical condition (patient's symptoms, physical examination findings).

Hope this may be helpful to you.
