Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had a CT scan and am interested in knowing what certain phrases of the results mean. There is no acute intracranial hemorrhage, large vascular territory infarct, or intracranial mass lesion. The ventricles are normal in size, shape and position. (The extra-axial CSF spaces, particularly at the vertex are prominent for a patient of this age.) I m 51 yo The bones and extracranial soft tissues are unremarkable. (Mild, patchy mucosal thickening of the ethmoidal air cells is noted.) IMPRESSION: No acute intracranial hemorrhage, large vascular territory infarct, or mass lesion.
This report excludes the presence of bleeding, infarction, or tumor.
It states that there's no hemorrhage (bleeding) or infarction (brain damage due to blood insufficiency).
Ventricles are chambers that contains cerebro-spinal fluid -CSF (fluid normally present around the brain and spinal cord). The report states they are within normal.
The spaces that contains CSF outside the ventricles are prominent. This is non-specific and could be normal. It has to be correlated clinically.
Patchy mucosal thickening indicates sinusitis (inflammation of the ethmoid sinuses).
Hope this answered your concerns. Best regards.
