What Does This Index Value Test Result For STD Indicate?

Hello, My son got these test results back regarding possible exposure for STD. What do they mean F HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec 1.09 - Note: Negative indicates no antibodies detected to - HSV-1. Equivocal may suggest early infection. If - clinically appropriate, retest at later date. Positive - indicates antibodies detected to HSV-1. F HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec 1.09 - Note: Negative indicates no antibodies detected to - HSV-1. Equivocal may suggest early infection. If - clinically appropriate, retest at later date. Positive - indicates antibodies detected to HSV-1. Thank you

The question doesn't give the normal values for the lab BUT cold sores are herpes simplex virus. Generally those are type 1 and the genital type is type 2 herpes but either can be either place and that is not very rare.

Bottom line, it doesn't mean it is genital herpes even if it is positive. Mostly it would mean infection sometime in the past with the cold sore virus. And over 90% of those age 17 or older would be positve for cold sore virus.
