What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

I had brain radiation a year ago for cancer. On my recent MRI report I see progressive periventricular leukoencephalopathy. My radiologist is happy with my MRI, however, I don t know what this means and I didn t see it until my test results where released on MY Chart . Is this just scar tissue from the radiation or what? Thank you, Joanne

Radiation Oncologist 's  Response
Hi,

As per the details provided, MRI findings are suggestive of a past history of radiation to brain.
Radiation like any other treatment, leaves its impression, this periventricular leukoencephalopathy is one such radiation sign, we commonly term it as treatment-related change and not a sign to worry.

However if you are still not convinced, then you consider doing a repeat MRI after 6 months from recent MRI and observe for changes, usually, treatment-related changes remain the same.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jatin Bhatia, Radiation Oncologist
