What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

My MRI results show degenerative changes, C5/C6 disc extrusion with superior migration. C5C6 spinal canal stenosis with moderate to severe foraminal stenosis. C6C7 broad based disc bulge. C6C7 spinal canal stenosis with moderate to severe foraminal stenosis and mild spinal canal stenosis involving C3C4 and C4C5. I m having pain in my neck and down my left arm if I bend too far forward or too far back. And numbness in my thumb, index and third finger. I haven t seen a neurosurgeon yet and was wondering what my options are.

Hello,

As the repair shows you are having degenerative changes in the cervical spine intervertebral disc at multi-level. Also, the symptoms are confirming the diagnosis.

The first thing to do is to stabilize the cervical spine by using the soft cervical collar. This will help reduce the compression over the nerve roots and reduce the symptoms to some extent. Undergoing Physiotherapy Treatment like - Therapeutic ultrasound therapy for the neck to reduce the inflammation and TENS therapy to reduce the radiating pain. Once the pain levels fall below 5-6 on Visual analogue scale then exercise for stabilizing the cervical spine and upper limb should be initiated. Post which, exercise to improve the strength in the cervical spine muscles and upper limb muscles are advised.

In my clinical practice of over 12 years, most cervical spine intervertebral disc disease has responded well with conservative management mentioned above.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
