What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

I am being treated at the VA. I have a tear in the Supraspinatus tendon after a dislocation from a fall. I am having a difficult time getting an interpretation of the report after the MRI. The Orthopedic Specialists insist on treating me like a dolt. I m an electrical engineer with minors and Mathematics physics chemistry and computer science, not the typical 68 year old duffer. Self defense medicine is in order considering it s the VA. I am having trouble interpreting the MRI report. Most of it I understand. The part I have trouble with is the description of the chair. 1.6 cm AP by 2 cm was pronounced fraying in the remainder. I looked up a p anterior-posterior, thus directionality. The part I don t get is the convention about the description of the tear. Is that the supraspinatus tendon is 2cm wide and the tear is 1.6cm, or is that 2 cm wide and 1.6cm remains? I have looked everything else up. The part I can t look up is the conventions of expression.

Radiologist 's  Response
Hi,

I feel the report says the size of the tear is 1.6 cm wide in the anterior posterior direction and 2 cm in length in the transverse direction. Please discuss with your doctors.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vivek Chail, Radiologist
