Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi im asking for my dad He is 63 years old and he did an mri one week ago that showed the following Prominent cortical sulci, sylvain fissures and basal cisterns with mild symmetrical dilation of the ventricular system No midline shift Small bilateral peri ventricular deep white matter high t2/FLAIR signal No focal signal abnormality of the cerebulum and brain stem No extra axial collections Empty sella is noted So the conclusion was he had brain involutional changes and early small artery disease. My question is , is this serious and does it mean he has early signs of dementia because he started to act strange and cant sleep at night. His height is 179 and his weight is 80. Is this treatable doctor. Please reply im very concerned.
The changes in the MRI brain scan are usually found in the elderly people. This is due to ageing and likely mildly decreased blood flowing in the small arteries in the brain. The empty sella can be from mildly increased CSF fluid pressure in the brain. In case of your dad, the changes cannot be completely treated and are not a serious concern.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vivek Chail, Radiologist
