What Does This MRI Result For Numbness In Stomach And Legs Indicate?

I have numbness in my stomach all the way to my feet with tingling and weakness in my legs.I recently had an MRI on my lumbar which showed a herniated disc at L4-5 and a broad based bulge at L5-S1.I am currently taking a steroid pack to reduce any swelling.Could this be something else?

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

I don't think there is any other reason for your symptoms other than herniated disc.

Due to herniated disc there is compression of nerve roots and spinal cord, which leads to numbness and tingling sensation in the distribution of nerves as in your case.

After reduction of swelling with use of steroids there may be need for expert physiotherapy and traction which should be discussed with your spine surgeon.

You should avoid bending forward, lifting heavy weight.

Depending upon neurological and MRI findings there may be need for surgery.

Hope this helps you, if so do vote as helpful.
