What Does This MRI Result From Spine Indicate For Persistent Headache?
Hi. My name in Jones and I m 32. For 5 years I have gone thru periods of horrible tension headaches. Very physical all around my head like a vice. They get much worse as the day goes on. I have had braces and TMJ jaw surgery to some success. Been on Klonopin and different muscle relaxers for year. Still I can just feel parts of my head and face at all times, but depression and anxiety can make the feeling sensations extremely painful. Its a vicious cycle, my psych makes my headaches worse and vice versa. Now I have a cervical MRI that revealed 2 herniated discs between my C4 and C6. My neurologist said this doesn t explain the headaches, gave me muscle relaxers and an appointment in 2 months. My chiropractor agreed and added that my C2 was off which might explain my headache pain but that didn t show up in the MRI. Im frustrated and still in a lot of pain. I know something is not right physically but no one can find it. They just give me pills and tell me not to think about it. Mindfulness. Geez why is this type of headache untreatable? You wouldn t tell somebody with cancer to practice mindfulness! Can anyone out there help me solve my headaches?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Though not an early sign, headache can be seen after cervical nerve compressions layer. I would suggest to start a serious efforts to manage your cervical spinal issues, with an orthopedic advice. Reduction of the nerve pressure cause by (physiotherapy or surgery) if practicable would reduce your head ache too. Another possible cause is refractory error. Get your eyes also checked by an ophthalmologist to exclude or find this cause followed by specific management. Mind concentration exercises help in gaining positivity and confidence.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
