Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This Torch Test During Pregnancy Indicate?
I am 15 weeks pregnant and tested for TORCH. The result was Toxoplasmosis, 37 IgG=Positive,IGM=negative, cytomegalovirus,37 IgG-=Positive, IgM=Negative,Rubella IgG,45=Positive, IgH=negative. I m so worried for my fetus, what does this mean? Help me please.
Hi Thanks for your query. I appreciate your concern for the TORCH screening.
The TORCH screen is useful for determining whether there may be an infection.
The presence of IgG antibody in a pregnant woman can mean a past infection. Typically, a second blood test is ordered for two weeks later so the antibody levels can be compared. If levels go up, the infection was recent.
IgM POSITIVITY is indicative of RECENT infection. Once infection occurs IgG antibody becomes positive, therefore do not worry for it as it will remain positive. You may continue to have your regular ante natal checkup, take iron and folic acid tablet 5 mg per day in consultation with your gynecologist.
IgG positivity does not mean present infection so it does not require treatment.
Hope this answers your query.
