Hello,
Wellcome to HCM
Enchondroma is a benign tumor and its prognosis is good.
Chondrosarcoma is a malignant tumour and hence it need to be ruled out.
X ray diagnosis of enchondroma is a comparatively less accurate diagnosis and thats why your consultant have suggested MRI.
MRI it a better study than x ray and it has various sequences which tell more specifically about the various characters of a particular lesion or mass.
Its sometimes difficult to tell the difference between enchondroma and chondrosarcoma even on MRI.
Histopathological study tell more specifically about the difference which is important to know for further action. And I'm sure that your consultant will tell the same in case of dilemma for histopathological examination.
