What Does This Abdominal CT Scan Test Result Indicate?

I just received a CT scan result and I wanted to ask you kindly about these below foundings: 1) A left acetabular accessory ossicle is seen with subchondral cystic-changes. 2) left inguinal hernia containing fat is seen. Your prompt response will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hello,

* Any report interpretation requires symptoms to be co-related, which are lacking here in question tag.

So far as only report interpretation is concerned, it depicts two aspects of health concern:

1. Acetabular accessory ossicle with subchondral cystic changes, which can be part of underlying osteo or rheumatoid arthritis with the above mentioned appearance.

2. The hernia in left inguinal region is indicative of the weakness of the internal inguinal ring area or posterior wall of the inguinal canal responsible for the protrusion of bowel loops beyond the sheath region and protrude over the surface level.

While small hernias do not require urgent intervention, larger hernias do pose a threat of obstruction or strangulation and have to be tackled with surgery on priority basis before some devastating events happen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
