What Does This Abdominal CT Scan Test Result Indicate?

Within the midpole of the right kidney, there is a 7 x 8 mmrenal calculus. Also a second adjacent 5 mm calculus. No right sidedhydronephrosis. In the left kidney, there is a 7 mm calculus within the superior pole as well as another ,up to 6 mm calculus within the inferior pole. No left sided hydronephrosis. I have had a stone once before which got stuck right when it left the kidney. ( NOT FUN ) How bad is this info? I do have a appt. with my Dr on the 17th

Hello,

The CT scan report shows presence of small stones in both kidneys which have not yet started to move and go out of the kidney. This means they are not moving from the kidney tissue to the urether to be expelled with urine, this is the reason why there is no hydronephrosis. Hydronephrosis happens when the stone moves towards the urether on the way out but blocks it and causes the urine to store back and dilate the center area of the kidney.

The fact that you are developing so many stones shows that you might need to have some more tests to identify the nature of the stones and possible causes for this and possible steps to prevent them from forming in your kidney or continuing to grow.

Stones under 9 mm generally can go through the urether and go out, if they grow beyond 1 cm this process is not possible and they risk to be there long term and continue to grow and other methods are needed to help them go out (surgery or braking down the stone).

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
