What Does This Blood Report Indicate?

My 4 year old had a CBC done and I am concerned. His neutrophils is 87.3%. Normal range is 34.0-67.0. His lymphocytes are 8.9%. Normal range is 25.0-55.0. He shows no signs of infection. He had previously been sick with colds and bad coughs for 2 months straight since starting preschool in September but right now he has no illness. What could this be?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
This blood report can show two problems
1 If Total leucocyte count (TLC) is slightly elevated - Then this shows increase in neutophils & suggest some recent bacterial infection in your child. It can also be caused by appendicitis and splenectomy
2. If Total leucocyte count (TLC) is normal or reduced then you can have reduced lymphocyes & high neurophil percentage might be as result of low lyphocyes, this is known as lymphocytopenia. This can be due to infections with HIV and other viral, bacterial, and fungal agents, malnutrition, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, etc
3. If his TLC is very high , then it might be because of malignancy such as Chronic myelogenous leukemia

Refer to your physician
Hope this information helps
