Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I m an 18 year old female who weighs 68.9 kg (over weight) and a hight of 165 cm. My cholesterol level in total is 219 mg/dL (out of range). My fasting sugar glucose is 103 mg/dL which is slightly out of range (which is 76-100). My ESR is 20mm. My AM cortisol is 13 ug/dL and my PM cortisol is 10.5 ug/dL. I wonder if my weight is due to hormonal imbalances (especially in cortisol, even though it s within range, I wonder if the PM cortisol is high), because I get sick every time I stress myself with college work and pull an all nighter, and everytime I try to exercise to lose weight.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. The following things can be inferred based on the investigation report you have enclosed. 1. Cholesterol level is higher than normal, indicative of dyslipidemia. 2. Glucose level is slightly higher than normal indicative of impaired tolerance to glucose. 3. AM & PM Cortisol level seems to be fine. Serum cortisol estimation is not showing much indication as to the cause of your overweight. It would be ideal to go for Thyroid profile investigation to know weather thyroid disorder is contributing to overweight. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
