What Does This Blood Sugar Level For Frequent Dizziness Indicate?

I have been feeling dizzy and off kilter for several weeks now...thought it was allergies, but now am having more dizzy spells immediately after eating. Bought a glucose monitor, and my fasting level is 90-100 and then it will go up to 110-130...once, it was up to 156, but that was after 2 glasses of o.j. Do you think it could be pre-diabetes, and would pre-diabetes cause these symptoms...thanks! P.S. I m a 51 year old female.Katie

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern, and would explain that your symptoms don't seem to be related to diabetes or a glucose intolerance.

Have you measured your blood pressure lately? A low blood pressure or orthostatic hypotension (postprandial hypotension) could be the cause of this symptomatology.

Your fasting glucose levels and postprandial glucose levels seem to be within the normal limits. I would like to explain that a postprandial glucose level, is the level of blood glucose 2 hours after the last meal (it is usually a specific amount of sugar). Values below 140mg/dl show a normal glucose metabolism.

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination, a resting ECG and some lab blood tests:

- fasting glucose
- glucose tolerance test
- complete blood count
- kidney and liver function tests
- cortisol plasma levels
- thyroid hormone levels
- blood glucose.

A head up tilt test is necessary to rule in/out a possible orthostatic hypotension or postprandial hypotension.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best regards,

Dr. Iliri
