Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband drinks a fifth of whiskey a day and 6 to 12 cans of beer. He recently had blood work done and the results were as follows. Alt(GPT) 155. AST(Got) 135. Eosinophil 8, Hematorit 50.8. MCV 108.1. These were all marked in red. Can you tell me what these mean ?
hello user , The report indicates that his Liver enzymes are raised - AST range is from 0-42U/L and ALT range is 0-48 U/L - also eosinophil count is slightly raised - can be normal upto 6 - possibly indicates some allergic/autoimmune/inflammatory reaction - and raised MCV (normal upto 100) indicates macrocytosis means cells size has increased from normal - all these findings are in line with findings among alcoholics - he needs although further evaluation and ruling out of any other contributory causes - best evaluated by a gastroenterologist and simultaneous consultation with a psychiatrist for deaddiction can help . hope i answered your query - if satisfied please rate the answer
