I have my triglycerides at 570 while cholesterol is at normal level. My uric acid is 7.40 and fasting sugar level is 92. I m frequently on tour to different places due to nature of my job. Am I at risk ? I don t have any uneasy feeling and I regularly do exercise for 30 minutes except for walking. Advice me what to do?

Hi & Welcome.

I appreciate your concern for the high levels of Triglycerides and Uric acid.

You need the following lifestyle modifications (diet and losing weight) which can potentially reduce high triglyceride & uric acid levels:

1. First and fore most AVOID Alcohol or alcohol containing beverages.
(if you are consuming) which will reduce the triglycerides and uric acid
2. Lose weight (if you’re overweight),
3. Increase the intake of dietary fibers (vegetables, fruits and whole grains) & decrease the refined sugars like cakes, ice creams, soft drinks, etc.
4. Avoid fatty vegetarian and non vegetarian meals.
5. Avoid red meat (beef), beans like rajmah, lentils and lentil soups, shrimps, etc to reduce your high uric acid levels.
6. Daily exercise for 30 minutes of moderate-intensity may lower your triglyceride levels. It is also an important part of keeping your weight under control.

7. You also need Triglyceride lowering drugs like Fibrates (fenofibrate also decreases uric acid level), Omega-3 fatty acides and Allopurinol for your high uric acid level. You have to consult a doctor for the prescription.

8. Increase the intake of oral fluids so as to acclerate the exceretion of uric acid from the kidneys.
