Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This Blood Test Result For Leg Pain In A 3 Year Old Indicate?
My 3 year old granddaughter was having leg pain. So my daughter took her to the doctor and they ordered blood work. Everything came back in normal range except the lymphocytes were high at 68.3 and the neutrophils were low at 22.6. The pediatrician said just to bring her back in a month and do the blood work again. Should we be more concerned?
If the total white cell count is normal, and she do not have other features like recurring fever, loss of weight or loss of appetite, we need not worry. Sometimes, this type of differential count persists for few weeks following a febrile illness or viral infection.
It is quite common for children of this age to have some pains in legs, especially towards evening and night- this is called growing pains. This need no treatment apart from a healthy diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, along with paracetamol for pain relief when needed. Children will overgrow this pain over time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
