What Does This Blood Test Result For Weight Loss And Anxiety Indicate?

She complains of weight loss and she feels extremely anxious without reporting any severe stressor in her personal life. Her physical exam reveals tachycardia (pulse rate 100 bpm), fine moist skin, a fine tremor, and a symmetrically enlarged thyroid. Further blood work demonstrates elevated free triiodothyronine ( 10 pmol/l) with TSH at less than 0.2 mlU/l.

I have gone through your question.

The weight loss,anxiety,tachycardia,moist skin,a fine tremor and symmetrically enlarged thyroid are all symptoms suggestive for hyperthyroidism.

At the other side,the results of thyroid function tests with elevated free T3 and low TSH,confirm the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism.

My advice for you ,in these circumstances, is to do a thyroid ultrasound and a thyroid scintigraphy.
These further investigations are necessary to understand the cause of hyperthyroidism and than to take the right treatement.
