What Does This Brain MRI For Tingling Sensation In Right Hand, lips And Tongue Indicate?

Hello. My 82 year old father called tonight with tingling in his right hand, lips and tongue. He is not an invalid type (very active works all day every day) but does have High cholesterol, High Blood Pressure and Atrial Fibrillation. He also just had an MRI on Friday (not because of this) and she did say he needed to work on his cholesterol as the veins or arteries in his brain are narrowing. We e on the phone right now. He doesn t think it s an emergency yet. He keeps pointing to the fact that his arm is fine, it s just his hand. He said if things turn worse in any way he will go to the emergency room tonight, or if it doesn t clear up soon he ll see the doctor. Does this sound like an immediate emergency? He is getting irritated with me for asking him to treat it that way.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The tingling right hand, lips and tongue indicate underlying transient ischemic attack, particularly with history of high cholesterol, BP and atrial fibrillation. There should not be any delay in treatment initiation as this may worsen the final outcome if it turns to be infarct or hemorrhage of particular brain areas covering vital structures and functioning.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
