Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had ventricular shunt surgery for advanced hydrocephalus in Apr., and was recovering well for a few months, but some symptoms are coming back, mainly lack of focus and short-term memory loss. My neurologist ordered a new m.r.i. which found a subdural hematoma, and wants me to get in with my neurosurgeon asap. How dangerous is this, and what can be done to correct it? (My neorsurgeons office was closed by the time I got this info.)
A subdural haematoma is the accumulation of blood between the brain outer membranes. It's not rare and is often not very serious if found an time.
The treatment is not difficult, it's simply too drain the blood by making a small hole in the skull,(through a special machine) and sticking the blood slowly. The outcome is very good most of the times.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
