What Does This Chest X-ray Report Indicate?

My 69-year old brother (a smoker) has had chest x-ray. The findings are: Inhomogeneous opacities are noted at the right upper lobe with a suspicious thick-walled lucency. A small ovoid opacity is seen at the left lower lobe superimposed on the 7th left posterior rib. The heart is borderline in size. Aorta is segmentally calcified. Diagram and costophrenic sulci are intact. There is an old fracture at the lateral aspect of the 4th left posterior rib. Small hypertrophrc spurs are noted along the lateral margins of the thoracic bodies. Please tell me what it means. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your brother has opacities in lungs .these may be pneumonia or tubercular or malignancy. I suggest lab testing as tlc.dlc.esr.sputum test. If these come normal then undergo HRCT scan lung to know more about nature of those lesions. Heart and blood vessels are normal. There is some problem in spine may be you are having backache history. After tests you may come back to HealthcareMagic.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
