What Does This Colonoscopy Result Indicate?

n 2002 I had a colonoscopy. The report says, A less than 0.3 cm diminutive polyp was snared and obliterated in the proximal sigmoid colon. Two Polyps measuring about 0.3 cm were snared in the distal sigmoid colong and sent for pathology. One piece is 0.3 x 0.3 x 0.2 and the other piece is 0.3 x 0.3 x 0.2 . Sections show polypoid colonic mucosa with alternating areas of epithelial hyperplasia and adenomatous change. In areas of adenomatous change there are cells having enlarged hyperchormaticnuclei and a moderate amount of partially mucinous cytoplasm. Malignancy is not identified. Diagnosis: Colon, Sigmoid: serrated adenoma (Mixed hyperplastic andadentomatous polyp.) I had colonoscopies again in 2005 and 2010 both clear. My gastro doctor said to do another one in five year (2015) I changed doctors last spring, and the new gastro guy says to wait another five yeas (2020). What is your opinion.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The colonoscopy shows small growths in colon which are called polyps. On histopathological examination, the polyps shows mild hyperplastic changes. There is nothing to worry, however, follow up with your gastroenterologist is required for regular colonoscopy to look for any new polyp formation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
