What Does This Latest Ultrasound Test Result For Uterus Indicate?

Hello, I had an ultrasound in October last year. I had the mirena IUD inserted at the time ultrasound was for placement. Findings say uterus is rather bulky. Midline endometrial echo is 7.2mm. Right ovary is 10cc & left is 16cc. Dr told me results were fine (I only recently got the print out as I m waiting to see a gynaecologist.) my next ultrasound due to other problems was in February so 4 months later (IUD was taken out shortly after first ultrasound). The findings to this was the endometrial echo complex is not thickened. (Was it thickened due to IUD in previous ultrasound) bulky right ovary of 17cc incorporating approx 12 follicles measuring up to 5mm. Borderline bulky left ovary of 10cc with 6 follicles up to 4mm. Is it possible for the ovaries to change. In previous ultrasound the left ovary was the bulky one & now they have swapped.. I was told that with the follicles & bulky ovary it s possible I have PCOS therefor the reason I m waiting to see a gynaecologist.. My original dr told me it couldn t be PCOS as I already have 2 children.i am 26 & children are 5 & almost 7. But I have been trying to conceive no 3 with no luck over the last 2 years. Thank-you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

More than 10 cysts over ultrasound examination of ovaries is diagnostic of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and that is the reason for underlying secondary infertility since last 2 years. The mild bulky uterus is secondary to altered hormone levels via PCOS rather than primary uterine pathology. In my clinic, after thorough clinical examination, I do focus the evaluation with follicular study and later hormone therapy for cycle regulation and management to conceive further in best possible manner. However, oocyte retrieval and test tube baby is always available as last resort in any case.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
