What Does This Liver Enzyme Functioning Tests Indicate?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...My 4 month old granddaughter has had some jaundice since she was born. She was 9 lbs. 3 oz. at birth. My daughter is breatfeeding and all is going well. As they were taking blood test for the jaundice they found her liver enzyme functioning was 680. It has gone up to 780 and now 800. Is this dangerous and is there anything she should do?

HI
Thanks for posting your query .
I can understand your concern . Mild elevation of liver enzymes is normal in newborn but 780, 800 is extremely high.
I need to know how old she is now ?
Such high values are seen in Liver infections which could be due to Virus or Bacteria . ( Virus more common ) Also such high levels of Liver enzymes indicate that there is severe damage happening to liver which if untreated can become fatal .
I advise you to consult a pediatrician as early as possible and get Ultrasound Abdomen , Hepatitis serology , Malaria test and Complete Hemogram test done . It better she gets Hepatoprotective medications like L_Ornithine L-Arginine.
Any clarifications feel free to ask . Always ready to answer. Regards.
