What Does This Pelvic Scan Indicate?

I did a pelvic scan that read:

Bulky size, non-gravid and anteverted uterus measuring about 45mm in the AP dimension with homogeneous myometrial echopttern.

The uterine outline is consistent and of border regularity.

The endometrial plate measures about 7mm in thickness, no retained products of conception, no uterine myoma noted.

Moderate fluid is noted in the posterior cul-de-sac suggestive of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)

IMPRESSION
1. Acyesis
2. PID.

REQUIREMENTS: Can you please explain in detail to me what the result is all about.

Thanks
Brimas

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic.
With this results, it means that your uterus (womb), although mildly enlarged, is normal, with no pregnancy. The only problem is the fluid that has collected in posterior cul-de-sac (Douglas pouch) which is supposed to be free. This is a sign of a disease called Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). Most of the time, this disease is caused by sexually transmissible germs. You may still need to do some laboratory tests like Chlamydia serology, vaginal swab and culture to be sure of the cause.

I hope that helps
I wish you well

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Acyesis means the absence of pregnany- you are not currently pregnant

PID stands for pelvic inflammatory disease- this is an infection that can affect the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.
It is treated with a course of antibiotics.

I hope this helps
