Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This Result From Echocardiogram Indicate?
I recently had a echocardiogram and it stated that I had a borderline conccentric left ventricular hypertrophy. Overall left ventricular systolic function is low-normal with an EF between 50-55% The diastolic filling pattern indicates impaired relaxation. Normal appearing mitral valve. There is very trivial mitral regurgitation not seen in all images. What does all this mean and what can I do to make it better. Is there a way to heal the heart wall, since I do not have high blood pressure.
Hello, Thank you for using HCM. - concentric left ventricular hypertrophy means that the walls of the left ventricle (the biggest room in the Left side of the heart) are getting thicker, border line means that the thickness is between high normal levels and high levels. - impaired diastolic filling means that due to thicker walls the left ventricle has it more difficult to dilate (relax) and be filled with blood. - EF 50-55 %. Ejaction Fraction is the amount of blood the left ventricle throws in the system when it contracts and should be 55% and above so yours is very mildly reduced. High blood pressure is a common cause but not the only one. There are medications that can help the heart have lower load and work easier. It seems you are having mild hypertrophy with mild effect in ejaction fraction. To reduce the risk of it progressing you need to see a cardiologist and have thorough check to try to find the cause of this hypertrophy and treat it accordingly. Hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you.
