What Does This Result From Home Strip Test For UTI While Suffering From Yeast Infection?
I just used a home test strip for UTI and it tested high in Leukocytes and negative with nitrites, I have been treating my burning when urinating as yeast infection until a family member recommended testing for UTI. Is it possible to have both? and is it bad to treat both if I end up only having a UTI
Hi Thanks for your query. I appreciate your concern for the possibility of UTI while having yeast infection.
Yes, they can co-exist. Beside many antibiotics can cause yeast infections. The vaginal infection can further irritate the urinary meatus (opening where urine comes out) and cause burning and UTI symptoms even though the infection is gone. UTI and a yeast infection are similar because they are both infections that cause discomfort in the vaginal area.
High Leukocytic count in urine is suggestive of inflammation in the urinary tract or kidneys and the most common cause is a bacterial UTI such as a bladder or kidney infection.
A positive nitrite test result can indicate a UTI however, one can still have a UTI despite a negative nitrite test.
First confirm the diagnosis of UTI caused by bacteria and the yeasts by culture and sensitivity and depending upon the results get the treatment from your physician.
Hope this answers your query.
