What Does This Semen Analysis Indicate?

Hi, My sis (age 34) and her husband (age 38) have been trying to conceive . One attempt at IUI has failed and they hv been recommened IVF.

My sister's all reports , scans , tests are normal, her husband has foll sperm analysis

Volume : 1, concentration : 45.5, motility : 24, morphology : 9, PH: 8.7

what is the recommened course of treatment in such case and typically what is the sucess rate of such treatment, in a similar case

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The analysis of semen analysis is as follows:
The volume of semen is low. Normal volume of semen should be atleast 2 ml per ejaculate.
The pH of 8.7 is within normal range.
The sperm concentration is 45.5 million per ejaculate. The sperm concentration is within normal range. The count should be atleast 20 million per ejaculate.
The progressive motility should be atleast 40 %. The motility of 24% is low.
Atleast 50% sperms should have normal morphology. However, there are only 9% sperms with normal morphology.
Thus, on the basis of parameters posted by you, the motility and morphology are sub-normal.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) technique will be helpful in conception.
The success rate of conception depends on how well the fertilized ovum develops in the uterus.
You can go for the procedure and follow up the procedure with your fertility expert.
