What Does This Semen Test Result Mean?
Dear Dr., One reflexoligist said after pressing my legs that I have sperm count of 55 mil/ml and very low motility. He also said that I have varicocele (I think I may have because I have slight pains in my left testacles. Out of curiosity I measure with a lab centre and got the following: Period of Abstinence : 36 hours (not 3 days!!, I usually have sex every day, I had sex on Thursday night and then went for semen test on Saturday 12 noon, so sex abstinence of 36 hours) Age: 36 years
Mode of Collection : Self. Liquefaction time : 30 Minutes
Colour : Whitish Opaque
Volume : 1.6 ml (> 1.5ml); usually I get more than this but there I got only 2 to 3 ejaculations Viscosity : Moderate
Reaction : Alkaline(8.0)
MICROSCOPIC CHARACTERSTICS
Sperm Concentration : 15 Millions (> 15 millions)
Motility : 30 % (40 or More)
MOTILITY GRADING (GR I +II + III=40%)
Gr I Fast & forward progression : 05 %
Gr II Slow /Sluggish forward progression : 10 %
Gr III Non Progressive : 15 %
Gr IV Non motile : 70 %
SUPRA-VITAL STAINING (EOSIN Y)
VIABILITY : 60 % (Viable >75%)
Agglutination if any : Nil
Fructose (Qualitative) : Positive Positive
SPERM MORPHOLOGY (WHO 2010)
Normal : 84 %
Head Defects : 07 %
Neck / Midpiece defects : 04 %

IMPRESSION : Oliogasthenospermia
Time of Collection : 12.30 pm
Now I want have an opinion of the above result on the count rate, morphology, motility, etc. Any way I will test again after 3 weeks with 3 days abstinence of sex.
One info: I was a smoker for 10 years and I stopped 65 days before taking this test (and won’t smoke in future too!).
1. Please suggest some labs, which makes very good and accurate semen analysis test in Chennai
2. Also regarding varicolele treatment in Chennai. Will it make a scar on testis or abdomen?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
According to your semen analysis , you have 15 Million sperms/ml which is low . As per motility , only 05 % are rapid motile, 10 % are slow motile , 15 % are non progressive motile & rest are dead. So all togethar motility is also less. According to shape 82% are of normal shape, which is normal.
There is presence of Pus Cells : 4 - 6 /hpf, Occasional RBCs & Epithelial cells : 1 - 2 /hpf. which indicate slight genital tract infection.
So according to your semen analysis report you have Oliogasthenospermia, which is reduced sperm count along with reduction in motility of sperms. This might be reason of infertility problem you are facing.
