What Does This Sonogram During Early Pregnancy Indicate?
Hi, I am currently 14 + 2 days pregnant with my 2nd baby and had my scan on Tuesday just gone, sonographer has requested another scan in 2 weeks because the lateral horns were slightly prominent on the scan, I am very confused as to what this means and if it could get better, are you able to help? She did say that they had new scanning machines and it could be this.
Hi, I have gone through your question. Dilated lateral horns in the fetus means dilatation of one of the part of the ventricular system of the brain. The causes for dilatation may be : 1. Some central nervous system anomaly in the fetus 2. Chromosomal anomaly, especially Down syndrome 3. Idiopathic( no cause found). I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist and get a detailed anomaly ultrasound and amniocentesis, if required to assess the chromosomal disorders. Further management has to be done accordingly. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Regards, Dr Deepti verma
